Remote RPD design: a guide for dentists and labs
How removable partial denture frameworks are designed digitally, what an RPD designer needs from you, and what remote RPD design typically costs.
ReadRemovable partial denture design is one of the most demanding jobs in a digital laboratory: surveying, path of insertion, rest seats, major and minor connectors and clasp design all have to be resolved before a framework is printed or milled. It is also the discipline where an experienced RPD designer makes the clearest difference to the fit you get chairside.
The laboratories below take RPD cases remotely. You upload the scan of both arches plus the bite, describe the design you want, and receive a quote before any work starts. The finished framework design is delivered as a printable or millable file inside the same private case workspace.
Accounts are free for dentists and laboratories. LabMatch keeps 10% of a paid case; the laboratory receives 90%.
Create a free accountAn RPD designer is a dental CAD technician who specialises in removable partial denture frameworks. They digitally survey the arch, set the path of insertion, and design rests, connectors, clasps and mesh retention so the framework can be milled or printed.
Usually yes, provided the scan captures the full arch, the soft tissue extension and an accurate bite. For free-end saddle cases many designers also ask for a photograph of the mouth or an altered-cast scan.
Most designers quote 24 to 72 hours for a framework design, with a surcharge for a rush turnaround. The turnaround is shown on each laboratory profile.
Accounts are free for dentists and for laboratories. The dentist pays the amount the laboratory quotes — there is no surcharge. LabMatch retains a 10% commission on paid cases and the laboratory receives 90%.
Yes. Every case runs remotely: scans, photos and prescriptions are uploaded to a private case workspace, and the finished design is downloaded there after payment. Physical location is optional for a laboratory.
STL, PLY, OBJ, DICOM, JPG, PNG and PDF are supported. Most intraoral scanners export STL as a minimum; PLY and OBJ additionally carry colour, which helps with margin lines and shade communication.
